How Can Psychotherapy Help?

Difficult Memories. Emotional storms.

I specialize in the treatment of PTSD and complex PTSD, anxiety and depression. Gently exploring what happened to you allows you to stop asking ‘what’s wrong with me?”

Psychoeducation for resilience

Emotions provide us with information about ourselves. Your feelings are valid and can be an echo of past experiences and a mismatch for the situation at hand. My treatment includes psychoeducation to help you learn how to turn towards your emotions to reduce their intensity.

Thoughts that hurt. Thoughts that heal.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps us explore links between our behaviour, feelings and thoughts. CBT and other therapeutic modalities help you think differently about yourself and other people.

Beliefs about yourself and other people

By the time we are adults, everyone has had at least a few challenging early experiences that colour our relationships. Recognizing behaviours that are unhelpful allows you the space to respond more effectively to other people. As others respond positively to you, belief in yourself grows.

Understanding the past to heal the present

Understanding your history and what it means to you can help unearth patterns in your present relationships that cause difficulty. Acknowledging unhealthy interactions which may have served you when you were younger can help you welcome healthier people into your life.

Self-concept and self-compassion

Most of us would be shocked if we heard someone talking as harshly to one of our friends as we talk to ourselves. Softening our self-judgment and self talk occurs when we recognize the good intentions of our inner critic or outer perfectionist.
